Loteria and Bingo!

posted in: SeniorAdventure

Did you know that we play Loteria as well as Bingo every other Wednesday evening?

The traditional lotería has its roots in 15th century Italy, where it traveled to Spain and then was brought to Mexico around 1769. Initially played by the elite, La Lotería Mexicana grew in popularity in the 19th and 20th centuries thanks to traveling fairs, known as ferias. Don Clemente Jacques began publishing the game with his art in 1887. The images Don Clemente used in his card designs have become iconic in Mexican culture, as well as gaining popularity in the U.S. and some European countries. Don Clemente’s cards also had a part in representing and normalizing different aspects of Mexico’s national identity during the 19th century.

Due to presentations and cultural event in September, the next night we play Bingo y Loteria will not be until October 4th, but we would love to have you join us then. Please contact Charles, our Programs Manager, to make a reservation!
