Where are you from and what brought you to Seattle?
Sapone is originally from Cambodia. She moved to Washington with her husband and four children in 1983 after originally leaving Cambodia amid the Civil War occuring there through the late 1960s to 1970s. Sapone’s family settled in Seattle and she is grateful for the new life moving to the US offered them. Sapone’s favorite things about Seattle are the weather (she is afraid of snow) and the incredible Cambodian community she has found here.
How are you connected to SPSC and what are some of your favorite activities at the center?
Sapone originally heard about SPSC through friends who encouraged her to come check out the activities and services SPSC offers. Once at SPSC, Sapone reconnected with a long-lost friend, someone she had not seen for over 20 years!
Sapone appreciates that SPSC helps to get her out of her home and socializing with friends. She thinks SPSC provides a space for Seniors to talk about their health, how they’re doing, and participate in social and physical activity—it’s a place for connection. Her favorite activities at SPSC are exercising and Romvong (traditional Khmer dancing) at the weekly dinners!
Sapone is a Program Ambassador for the Cambodian cohort at SPSC and is passionate about helping SPSC’s Seniors lead their happiest lives.
Interests and hobbies
In addition to socializing and staying physically active at SPSC, Sapone loves keeping up with her flower gardens; she gardens regularly both at her home and her temple.
Sapone also enjoys documenting happy moments through photos and enjoys sharing her photos with friends and family.
